Privacy Policy – nitz.chat
Last updated: August 20, 2025
At nitz.chat, your privacy comes first. The app has been designed with privacy by design: minimal data processing, no tracking, and no personal data collection. This policy explains what data we (do not) process, why, and your rights.
1. Data Controller
The data controller for processing in the context of nitz.chat is:
Dennis Schuuring
Developer of nitz.chat
E-mail: [email protected]
2. What data do we process?
User information
- You do not need to provide any personal data (such as name, phone number, or email address) to use nitz.chat.
- You only choose a username.
Random device ID
- To recognize you as a unique user, nitz.chat generates a random, local device ID at first use.
- This ID is stored only on your device and used solely to distinguish chats and sessions.
- The ID is not based on system or hardware identifiers and is not linked to your real identity.
Result: we cannot technically or practically identify who you are.
Push notifications (optional)
- If you enable push notifications, your device generates a Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) token.
- This token is linked to your device ID and username, allowing the server to send notifications to your device.
- You must explicitly grant permission for push notifications - they are disabled by default.
- Tokens are used only for message delivery, not for tracking or identification.
- You can disable push notifications at any time in the app settings.
Chats & messages
All messages are end-to-end encrypted (ECDH + AES-GCM). Only you and your conversation partner(s) can read the content.
Storage
Temporary storage of group lists, invitations, and undelivered encrypted messages. Delivered messages and inactive data are automatically deleted.
3. Why do we use this data?
- To send and receive messages securely.
- To keep chat lists and invitations available.
- To distinguish devices and sessions (via the random device ID).
- To secure communication with encryption.
- To automatically clean up old data.
- To deliver push notifications (only with your permission).
4. What data do we not process?
- No readable chat content.
- No personal data or contact lists.
- No location data.
- No system or hardware identifiers.
- No trackers, analytics, or advertising profiles.
5. Security
All communication is secured via HTTPS and WebSockets. Encryption keys remain only on the user’s device.
6. Legal basis
We process only what is strictly necessary to perform the agreement: providing the chat service.
7. Retention
- Messages: deleted once delivered.
- Group information and invitations: deleted after inactivity or expiry.
- Random device ID: persists as long as the app is installed; can be reset by the user.
- FCM tokens: stored locally and updated as needed; deleted when push notifications are disabled.
8. Data sharing
We do not share data with third parties. No advertising or analytics tools. No transfers outside the EU.
9. Your rights
Since we do not process personal data in the traditional sense, there is practically nothing to access or delete. For questions, contact [email protected].
10. Changes
This privacy policy may change. The latest version is always available at https://nitz.chat/privacy.
